The 2019 Grand Marshal is Mr. Trent Cornell

Bratwurst Festival, Inc. is honored to present the 2019 Grand Marshal and Honorary Parade Marshals.  With the chosen theme for 2019 being “Brattie Salutes our Veterans”, Board President Amanda Myers said, “We wanted to choose and honor people that not only made a significant impact on our community and our festival, but also those who made a significant impact on our freedom by serving our country.”
The 2019 Grand Marshal is Mr. Trent Cornell.  After graduating in 1967 from Bucyrus High School, where he served as Drum Major for the BHS Marching Band, Cornell enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and was assigned to Bravo Company, 1st Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division where he served as a combat soldier.  Cornell participated in the 68th Tet Offensive in the Battle of Hue City, where Cornell’s division recaptured the Citadel and was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation.  Cornell was honorably discharged from the Corps in August of 1969.  Ironically, Cornell deployed in August of 1967, just days before the first Bratwurst Festival.  “It is such an honor to be named Grand Marshal and to be recognized in front of my hometown”, said Cornell. 
In his civilian life, Cornell completed cost analysis studies on all 100 B-1 bombers in his job working for Rockwell, who was later bought out by Boeing.  He also worked in the treasurer’s office for the Bucyrus City School District.  Trent Married his wife Oriana in 1970.  Known by many as the percussion advisor for BHS Marching Band for 20 years, and now entering his 7th season as percussion advisor for the Wynford High School Band, Trent has a place in the heart of many Bucyrian’s.  Trent will be speaking at the Boyd Long Opening Ceremony on the Wyandot Mutual Stage at 11:00am on Thursday August 15.  You can also hear Cornell speak at the “Remembering Our Heroes” event at the VFW Post 1078 on Saturday August 17 at 11:00am.  The public is invited to both events.
This year, as in recent years, the festival will honor several individuals posthumously as Honorary Parade Marshals.  Being honored this year are hometown hero, Purple Heart recipient and recipient of the Medal of Honor,1st Lieutenant Harry L. Martin.  Martin will be represented at opening ceremony and in the parades by several family members. 
Ronald Barnes, a long time Bratwurst Festival electrician, was a member of the United States Army.  Ron is remembered by fellow Bratwurst Festival committee members as having a kind heart and always being there to do whatever it takes to make things happen.  Ron passed away October 24, 2018. 

Lastly, the festival committee has chosen to use the role of Honorary Parade Marshall and name “All POW/MIA”.  Bratwurst Festival Director Larry West, who served in the United States Army, said “When honoring the men and women of the armed forces, and our veterans, we would be remiss if we did not take a moment to remember all of those who were either captured and held, were killed in action, or are missing in action”.  Look for a “rider-less horse” leading the Thursday Bratwurst Festival parade on August 15 at 7:00pm.   The rider-less horse signifies those lost in action.


Bucyrus Bratwurst Festival Parade Rules

1. Deadline for entry to the parades is August 1, 2019. Entry is FREE prior to this time.
2. Entries after August 1, 2019 are subject to Parade Chairperson’s approval, and are subject to a $25.00 entry fee.
3. All units will be notified via EMAIL of lineup location and arrival time prior to August 14, 2019.
4. Units will be assigned a lineup number card with a 3 digit number. This card must be prominently displayed to assist parade announcers in identifying
your unit.
5. Floats must be present by 5:00pm on Thursday, August 15, 2019 for judging and presentation of awards. Only the entries participating in all three
parades will be eligible for awards. Parade awards are on the Wyandot Mutual Stage on Rensselaer Street on Saturday at 7:00 pm.
6. All parade entries should be present at their lineup location at least one hour prior to the parade step-off.
7. Once the parade has stepped off, no late arrivals will be permitted to enter the parade.
8. All parade entries must be submitted prior to the entry deadline.
9. All parades will start at the scheduled time and will not be delayed for any reason except weather without approval from the Festival Directors.
10. Parade must keep moving at all times. Units are not permitted to stop – movement must be constant. Please allow approximately 25 feet of space
between entries.
11. Parade entries ARE NOT PERMITTED to stop on the railroad tracks. Units should ensure they have enough space ahead to completely clear the tracks
once they start to proceed across the tracks.
12. Anyone driving a powered entry must have a valid driver’s license. Children requiring a child safety seat in accordance with Ohio Revised Code 4511.81
must follow the law accordingly. Seatbelt use is dictated by Ohio Revised Code 4513.263.
13. Motorized and horse-drawn entries must provide proof of liability insurance.
14. No partisan political entries will be permitted in any parade.
15. For everyone’s safety, parade participants are strictly prohibited from throwing and/or distributing anything, including candy, literature, or any other
item before, during, or after the parade.
16. No persons are permitted from entering or exiting a moving vehicle or float at any time.
17. All vehicle units are limited to two entries, except specialty units with previous permission from Parade Chairperson.
18. Commercial entries, other than floats, will be limited to Thursday and Friday parades only.
19. The parade chairperson and committee will have complete control of the lineup area. Any questions or problems will be directed to the chairperson.
The parade chairperson reserves the right to reject or evict any entry that is not promoting the best interest of Bratwurst Festival, Inc. The
chairperson’s decision will be final, and will be reviewed by the Festival Director.
